Michael J. Finney, Ph.D.

Dr. Finney is a graduate of Harvard College, AB 1980mcl in Biochemical Sciences. He did his graduate work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ph.D. 1987 in Biology (Genetics); his thesis advisor was H. Robert Horvitz. He did postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital 1987-1991, with Gary Ruvkun.

In 1986, he and his brother John founded MJ Research, keeping it a privately-held, bootstrapped company until selling it to Bio-Rad in 2004.

In addition to Finney Capital, Dr. Finney participates in several scientific projects:
  • SETG, a NASA-funded project to discover life on Mars. Other participants include Gary Ruvkun, Maria Zuber, George Church, and Walter Gilbert.
  • GCorp 1999-present. A non-profit corporation that sponsors an annual scientific meeting, Advances in Genome Biology and Technology.
